At least one person was killed in the fires. A 58-year-old resident Pasig City.
The fires broke in Pasig City, Caloocan City, Binondo district, Quezon City, Tondo and in Makati City.
Among these fires was a residential blaze along Pasig City’s Katarungan Street. The fire reached the fourth alarm before being put out at 12:06 a.m. of January 1.
Another fire broke out late Sunday in Caloocan City’s Barangay 74 when a pile of electric cables in a storage lot caught fire. This fire was put out at 11:37 p.m.
A commercial building on Alvarado Street in Manila’s Binondo district caught fire at around 11:48 p.m., with firefighters still attempting to control the blaze at 2:05 a.m. of January 1.
In Sagittarius Street in Novaliches, Quezon City, a residential fire reached the second alarm at 12:52 a.m., before it was finally out out at 1:20 a.m. There were no casualties from the fire, which caused some P50,000 in damage.
Another residential fire, this time on Sta. Rosa Street in Tondo, Manila started at around 12:15 a.m., and reached the third alarm by 1:07 a.m.
Finally, a fire at a Makati junk shop on Coronado Street reached the first alarm, before being put out a 2:25 a.m.
